There's alot of great (and some being decent) movie based games. The main reason that most movie based games tend to lack quality is because there's not much time for them to make it, once they're approached to make the game. They're left to rely on following the movie plot (which in most movie to game cases, doesn't have too great of a source material), and tack on generic (and often not well polished) ideas.

Most movie based games a rushed because they want them to be released before the movie, so most of the time developers have a year or less to work on a movie based game.

Well the key reason for movie-based games being a failure is because developers often only have their sets aimed at making a quick profit if they rush it before or for the release date of said movie to cash on the hype.
I think that a solution to this problem is that developers focus on "movie-THEMED games." Rather than based.
For example, StarWars BattleFront uses the Star Wars Theme but does not it base off any movies, and BattleFront is one of the greatest games to own on the PS2 or Xbox.

Well the movie games are selling lot no matter how crappy the game is.
So why make a effort when you can sell shity rushed game with same price?
