Reel repair Penn 60 long beach?

Best Answer...

I was gonna go on a fishing trip one day and the day before I went I found a Penn 60 long beach that somebody put out side of his house. But the nickel plated coating on the reel was all corpses so I sanded it all down to the brass looks real nice now.but when I took out the switch that you flip up to put on freespool to sand it down and when I put it back and try to put it on freespool it doesn't work why is that? I have to put it up all the way past the plastic part for it to be on freespool and it doesn't even turn as smooth as it used to can anyone give me tips please I really like this reel I'll post up a picture when I'm done with it on my profile thanks

Tight lines
Thanks Bruce it's a baitcaster it's pretty old it has to be 10 years or over because they eithestopped making them in 2001 or 1999 so I wouldn't wanna open it up and screw it up thanks anyway

Answer:

you removed the free spool lever. inside, it is spring loaded and will flip beyond one position or the other. what you gotta do is :

1) notice the knob on the lever opposite the end with the hole.

2) put the hole on the part sticking out of the reel with the knob BACKWARDS, pointing away from the reel. put the screw in, not tight.

you will notice that the lever is beyond it's intended position and if the knob were turned in to the reel it would not fit.

3) move the lever to a position midway between free and reel. you may have to re-position the lever as it may be on the wrong side. anyway, once you are able to move the lever forward and backward...

4) it should hold this position if you gently remove the lever. if not, start over. let's move forward on the assumption that it is holding in the correct position.

5) put the lever back on with the knob pointed the correct war, replace the screw, tighten it and move the lever back and forth. it SHOULD be working.

if it isn't, l can fix anything on this reel in less than 20 minutes. bring it to me at the castaic lagoon saturday, the 24th between 5:00 and 6:00 PM. catch me before l launch. l won't come back.

it will be simple to recognize me. l'll be the one catching all the fish.
