Captains Corner: Use skipping technique to search under docks (St. Petersburg Times)

**Tactics:** This is a great time to target fish that hang under and around
docks. The best way to determine which docks are holding fish is to skip soft-
plastic jigs underneath. Use a lure that has the weight inside the body; a
lure that has a jig head in the front won't skip. If you're on a boat, use a
motion similar to swinging a golf club. Cast the lure low to the water and
have it first skip about halfway to the dock. This takes practice, but once
you get the feel of it, you'll be able to skip a jig farther under the dock.
The farther back the jig goes under the dock, the more time there will be for
fish to see the lure.
**What's next:** After the cast, let the jig drop to the bottom. Retrieve the
lure with a slow lift of the rod tip. Then lower the tip and let the jig drop
back to the bottom. Make at least five casts if there is not a strike before
moving to the next dock.
